Below is the list of our most frequently requested software courses.

Most of the software instruction is divided into basic, intermediate and advanced levels. 

By selecting the software title tab above you will find detailed descriptions of each of the topics covered in each session.

The Reed Advantage offers classes in 2003, 2007 and 2010. Our courseware has been approved by Microsoft to cover the course objectives that will be included in the relevant exam. It also means that after utilizing this courseware, you may be better prepared to pass the exams required to become a certified Microsoft Office Specialist.

 

 

Microsoft Access Basic

 

In Basic, you will be introduced to the database application and the new Ribbon interface. You will also build, manage, and maintain databases containing numerous objects.

Microsoft Access Intermediate

 

In Intermediate, you will design a relational database, customize input forms, create custom reports, and use advanced queries.

Microsoft Access Advanced

 

Advanced is all about advanced Access skills. You will set up complex forms and reports, customize the database interface, set security options, and integrate Access with other Office applications.

 

 

Microsoft Excel Basic

 

 

In Basic, you are introduced to Excel and the new Ribbon interface. You also enter and edit data, select cells and ranges, print worksheets, create formulas and functions, and format cell contents.

Microsoft Excel Intermediate

 

In Intermediate, you work with large worksheets; insert clip art, pictures, and SmartArt; use templates; manage multiple-sheet workbooks; and create tables and outlines.

Microsoft Excel Advanced

 

In Advanced, you create PivotTables and macros, use financial functions and data analysis, create auditing and additional functions, use advanced formatting and analysis tools, collaborate with others, and integrate Excel with other Office 2007 applications.

 

 

Microsoft Outlook Basic

 

 

This basics course introduces the Outlook program window and navigation; you send, receive, and respond to messages; use Contacts view to manage information about people with whom you correspond. It introduces the Calendar and task management features.

Microsoft Outlook Intermediate

In Intermediate, you will use the Signatures feature, set message delivery receipts, format messages, and manage junk email. Learn how to include attachments to messages, compress files, and use Outlook's instant messaging services. Then schedule meetings and save a calendar as a Web page. The course concludes the book with topics to help you organize and manage Outlook data.

 

 

 Microsoft PowerPoint Basic

 

In Basic, you will be introduced to the new Ribbon interface; work with themes, bulleted lists, and outlines; format text; and deliver a slide show.

 Microsoft PowerPoint Intermediate

 

In Intermediate, you will print presentations, add multimedia, insert and customize tables, and create complex presentations with multiple slides and design templates.

Microsoft PowerPoint Advanced

 

In the Advanced series, you will create online presentations, email presentations, use comments and track changes, transport presentations, and integrate PowerPoint with other Office applications.

 

 

Microsoft Publisher Basic

 

Basic includes creating and editing text boxes, inserting and manipulating graphics, drawing objects, and creating e-mail publications.

Microsoft Publisher Intermediate

 

Intermediate includes creating Business Information Sets, using the Format Painter, creating newsletters, using auto flow, creating mail merges, creating and formatting tables and calendars, and creating web sites.

 

 

 

 

Microsoft Word Basic

 

 

In Basic, you will be introduced to Word and the new Office 2007 Ribbon interface. Topics introduced include working with text, using proofreading tools, creating bulleted and numbered lists, using mail merge, and more.

Microsoft Word Intermediate

 

In Intermediate, you will work with tables, newsletter columns, WordArt and clip art, document themes, styles, picture editing, footnotes and endnotes, templates, and more.

Microsoft Word Advanced

 

In the Advanced series, you will create a table of contents and an index, create headers and footers, work with Track Changes, create macros and forms, use digital signatures, and integrate Word with other Office applications.

 

 

QuickBooks Pro: Basic

QuickBooks Pro Basic provides essential coverage of the QuickBooks software. The book opens with an introduction to QuickBooks and accounting principles. Working with customer transactions comes next, and then dealing with vendor transactions. Students then work with QuickBooks' online banking features. Once students understand how QuickBooks works, they create a company file from scratch. By the end of this course students will be well prepared for the challenges presented in QuickBooks Pro Intermediate.

QuickBooks Pro: Intermediate

QuickBooks Pro Intermediate builds on the concepts introduced in QuickBooks Pro Basic and introduces physical inventory and sales tax, setting up and using QuickBooks for payroll, and dealing with the "other" accounts sometimes found in balance sheets (other current assets and long term liabilities). The estimates and time tracking features re explored, as is the use of classes to categorize data. In the last lesson, students enter general journal entries, customize QuickBooks reports, create custom templates and close the books.

 

 

Welcome to the World of Computers

Welcome to the World of Computers is the perfect introduction to computers for dislocated workers, students requiring skills enhancement, and others with little to no previous computer experience.

The series starts with elementary computer concepts and introduces basic navigation such as mousing, the cursor, the Desktop, and the taskbar.

 

The fundamentals of word processing are covered using Word 2010 and 2007.

 

Then, students are introduced to basic file browsing and file management.

Web browsing and web basics are explained.

 

The series finishes with a discussion of webmail, email attachments, and email security including scams, phishing, and spam.

 

 

General Clerk

Designed to provide hands-on instruction for individuals giving them basic skills employers are looking for in an entry level clerical candidate. This program packages the most frequently requested courses for this skill base. Includes:

  • Basic and Intermediate Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook (2007 version);
  • Keyboarding;
  • Document formatting;
  • Equipment usage including: telephone, computer, photocopier, scanner and network systems skills;
  • Business English: grammar, spelling and punctuation;
  • Correct email messaging protocols;
  • Proper message receiving skills (In person, telephone and by email);
  • How to build itineraries and agendas;
  • Proper filing skills - paper and electronic;
  • Customer service skills;
  • Effective team behavior and working skills;
  • Professional and ethical office behavior;
  • Time management;
  • Organizational and effective decision-making skills.

10 Key and Business Math

*Can only be added to General Clerk Training Program. Teaches students how to use the efficient 10-key touch method to solve business problems on a calculator. Including Keypad Introduction, Using Memory Keys for Repeated Operations, Percent of Change, Prices of Treasury Bonds and Notes and Interest and Proration.

 

 

 

ELL- English Language Learners

This course is designed to take individuals through the basics of effectively using a computer to perform common tasks. Introducing beginning level computer skills. Course materials and instruction will be in English; explanations and support provided in Spanish. *Participants should have at least a low to intermediate English reading and comprehension proficiency to attend this class.
